From Kalmar to London
Johan grew up in Kalmar, a coastal city in south east Sweden known for its calm pace of life and strong sense of community. It was an upbringing shaped by nature, family and the Swedish mix of rigour and warmth.
In 1998, he moved to London - a city full of opportunity and energy - and began building his career in accountancy and tax. He qualified as both a Chartered Accountant (ACA) and a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and spent many years at medium sized and Big Four firms advising clients with interests across the UK and Sweden.
Over time, he noticed something important: Swedish individuals and businesses in the UK often struggled to find advisers who truly understood both systems - and both cultures.
Building Accountum
Accountum was created to fill that gap. Johan founded the firm to support Swedish founders, executives and companies navigating life and business in the UK. Regulated by the ICAEW, Accountum combines technical expertise with a straightforward, personal approach.
Our work spans personal tax and Self-Assessment, corporate accounting, VAT and payroll, and specialist cross border advice for clients with ties to both countries.
At the heart of Johan’s philosophy is a simple idea: accountancy is a people business. It’s about understanding a client’s whole picture - their goals, their challenges, their family - and giving clear, reliable guidance that helps them move forward with confidence.
Beyond the office
Johan is an active member of the Anglo Swedish community. He serves on the Board of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the UK and is a founding member of UK4Sweden®, supporting collaboration between the two countries.
Outside work, he is a keen tennis player and a member of The Queen’s Club in West Kensington. He also enjoys time with his family, travelling and returning to Sweden whenever he can.
Decades after arriving in London with a suitcase and a plan, Johan has built a firm that reflects both sides of his story. Swedish roots, London experience - and a commitment to helping clients thrive in both worlds.
